Will England qualify?

England finished second in UEFA Group A3, missing out on automatic qualification after Spain pipped them on goal difference. The Lionesses now head into the play-offs, where they face Greece in the first round across two legs. Win that, and they face the winners of Slovakia versus Ukraine in the second round, with the away leg played first.

Two rounds stand between England and Brazil 2027. Play-off matches take place in October and November to December 2026.

Why Brazil 2027 matters

This is the first Women's World Cup ever held in South America. Brazil is one of the world's most passionate football nations, and the tournament expanding to 32 teams means more games, more nations, and more fans watching than ever before.

For women's football fans in the UK, Brazil 2027 is the biggest moment the game has seen. The WSL 2026/27 season running up to it, combined with a stacked transfer window and growing stadium attendances, means the sport arrives at the tournament in the best shape it has ever been.
